BNZ – BusinessNZ Performance of Manufacturing Index (PMI) is a monthly survey of the manufacturing sector providing an early indicator of activity levels. A PMI reading above 50 points indicates manufacturing activity is expanding; below 50 indicates it is contracting. The main PMI and sub-index results are seasonally adjusted.
New Zealand’s manufacturing sector had a seasonally adjusted PMI for July at 53.5. Although this was 1.6 points lower than June, it was still the second highest result for the last four months.
New Zealand’s manufacturing sector experienced a lower level of activity in April, although still showing overall expansion, with a seasonally adjusted PMI for April at 51.8.
Manufacturing activity remained in solid territory during November, although the level of expansion eased back from the previous month, with a seasonally adjusted PMI for November at 55.2.
Employment activity reached its highest level as the manufacturing sector continued to show stronger expansion during October, with a seasonally adjusted PMI for October at 59.3.
