MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Grabbing an unfilled niche in the market, with potential for multi-national production is something all manufacturers aspire to.

One Wairarapa exterior joinery manufacturer is demonstrating that it can be done - using overseas technology in a New Zealand first, raising efficiency, productivity and international prospects.

“We’re starting a totally new ballgame in exterior wooden joinery in this country” - Cameron Shaw of Renall Doors.

Are there other manufacturers with similarly inspiring stories to tell? I'd love to hear from you.

New GST exemption on export related manufacturing

Great news for exporting manufacturers as Revenue Minister Peter Dunne recently announced the government's decision to treat the GST on export related manufacturing as exempt (e.g. the cost of tooling up for an export order), to bring it into line with the domestic treatment of GST.  This will be a boost for our manufacturing export sector, as many exporters specialise in customised and bespoke manufacturing, rather than large low cost runs.

BusinessNZ and ManufacturingNZ supported this move and we are glad to see a positive result.

See the Minister's statement here.

Retail Australasia Summit & Expo

New Zealand’s biggest event for the retail industry is offering friends of ManufacturingNZ (that's you) a special discounted rate.

Being at this conference is a great way to keep close to what is happening at the customer/demand end of the spectrum, and to understand future trends/opportunities and threats.  As we all know, retail has been extremely tough of late and this flows back down the supply chain to manufacturers.

I will be chairing day two and hope to see you there. C Beard
