MESSAGE FROM MANUFACTURINGNZ

We had some very good news earlier in the month, with the Government’s announcement on reconnecting New Zealand to the world. We've been calling on the Government to give us some clarity on when New Zealand will reopen for some time now, so it is good to have these dates to keep to. It's also important to note that stage 4 and 5 timings can be brought forward depending on the effect of the omicron outbreak in New Zealand.

January's PMI (Performance Manufacturing Index) result shows New Zealand's manufacturing sector continuing to expand, however with the changes in Covid-19 rules and restrictions, as well as the ever-increasing number of challenges the sector faces, we're not sensing any growing momentum at the moment.

Bye for now
Josh

Sticky Gear - PMI

New Zealand's manufacturing sector saw a reduction in the level of expansion for the first month of 2022, according to the latest BNZ - BusinessNZ Performance of Manufacturing Index (PMI).

The seasonally adjusted PMI for January was 52.1 (a PMI reading above 50.0 indicates that manufacturing is generally expanding; below 50.0 that it is declining).  This was 1.7 points lower than December, and below the long-term average of 53.1 for the survey.
